Why animal research is essential?
Animal experimentation remains essential in neuroscience, medicine and various scientific fields.
Despite the growing development of alternative, animal-free methods such as computation modelling, organoids, advanced imaging methods, preclinical research remains fundamental from a scientific perspective to understand the complexity of the human body and nervous system.
Conducting preclinical studies with the utmost ethical standards and compassion is imperative, minimizing suffering and prioritizing animal welfare throughout the experimental process.
In Switzerland, strict laws govern animal research, allowing it only when no viable alternatives are available. Significant advancements in alternative methods have enabled the reduction and refinement of animal use in experiments.
What kind of research are we working with?
Research at Campus Biotech mainly focuses on neuroscience.
In this field, preclinical research is crucial for studying complex biological processes and interactions that cannot be accurately replicated in vitro. These models play an indispensable role in advancing our understanding of the underlying mechanisms of complex conditions and interactions, as well as in the development of novel devices and therapies for human disorders.
Campus Biotech offers a dynamic, resource-rich environment dedicated to Neuroscience. The close proximity of the different on-site platforms, along with the strong collaboration among academic partners fosters synergies that drive research further. This multi-disciplinary approach enables significant advancements in the field. The platform supports both fundamental and translational research, with several projects playing a pivotal role in clinical research.
Originally founded in 2016, the Preclinical Neuroscience Platform is located at Campus Biotech in Geneva and benefits from the dynamic research environment offered by the Campus.
Campus Biotech fosters interdisciplinary research, contributing to advancements in neuroscience and leading to a better understanding of brain function and cutting-edge medical applications.
The scientific leadership is provided by three Faculty Advisors, Prof. Grégoire Courtine, Prof. Bernard Schneider and Prof. Denis Jabaudon.
